CHALLENGED CONVENTIONS
Fonts
As our coming-of-age opening title sequence was aiming to be a thriller, we wanted to find a font which is not only clear and easy to see but to also not be too horror-looking because our aim wasn't for it to be a horror sub-genre. We wanted to show the sort of film we made through the shape and positioning of the credits. To do this, we couldn't use basic ones off of Microsoft Word or any other program; we had to download it off a website called 'DaFont' which allows you to download a variety of fonts for free. Eventually, we picked roughly about three to chose from and we chose the one which looked the best in our film and in front of the videos in which we produced. To add our chosen font ontop of our clips, we used 'KeyNotes' and firstly wrote it however large we needed it to be then made the background green. By doing this, it allowed us to screenshot it and put it onto iMovie with only having the text showing and not the background. We got inspirations from our fonts from other coming-of-age and horror films such as 'The Human Centipede' and 'Saw".
Sound
Throughout the whole of our opening title sequence, there is music playing in the background. We got this through lots of research and finally found one off of 'YouTube' and downloaded it using the converter. The song we chose does not have any words and is purposely sounds very suspenseful and this creates the atmosphere extremely very well which was our aim. It also highlights the parts of the beginning of the film to show which parts are meant to be most atmospheric. We also added some smaller pieces of music to make bits seem more spooky. For example, just before 'Lilly Adams' screams, there is a fast bit of music which is also very jolty and this highlights her feelings and how she is confused and isn't completely sure on what or where she is. Inbetween clips, we also added flashbacks which we put different songs on top of. We added a song which we thought was recognisable to most teenagers so that they could relate to the storyline. We decided to add the song 'I Cry' by FloRida. We added a song in the background to show that the flashbacks are meant to be from parties and it would be easier to understand.
